Enabling Tamil phonetic typing

Hi

I would like to be able to type in any application with text input in the Tamil language with a phonetic keyboard. Can you please share how this could be done?

We'll surely help with this. I am not sure yet, but I'll do some search and let you know about it soon. Can you confirm whether tamil is available in the Indian keyboard layout or not?

Hi Bala,

You can enable Tamil keyboard support by doing either:

<super key>
type settings
enter settings
open regional and language
in input sources add Tamil

An icon should appear to right, giving you the ability to switch between languages.

You can of course also reach settings from the drop down menu top right.

We really need a wiki page to cover enabling support for Indian languages, will try and get some effort devoted towards that.

Offering keyboards for sale via the our upcoming online store would also make a lot of sense. Do you know if Tamil keyboards are readily available - or do people use some sort of keyboard overlay?

Recently updated the hamara install after two months. Now the language option is working smoothly. Earlier the dialog box wouldn't open at all. Very easy to switch between languages now. Thanks.
